Invitation to an Interactive Media Round Table/Report Launch

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) is pleased to invite you to its Interactive Media Round Table/Report Launch on: How failure of companies to pay tax is fuelling poverty, underdevelopment and inequality in Nigeria” 

SERAP is a non-profit, nonpartisan, legal and advocacy organization devoted to promoting transparency, accountability and respect for socio-economic rights in Nigeria. SERAP received the Wole Soyinka Anti-Corruption Defender Award in 2014. It has also been nominated for the UN Civil Society Award and Ford Foundation’s Jubilee Transparency Award. SERAP serves as one of two Sub-Saharan African civil society representatives on the UNCAC Coalition, a global anti-corruption network of over 310 civil society organizations (CSOs) in over 100 countries.

The Media roundtable aims at bringing together activists, civil society, anti-corruption agencies; Ministries, Departments and agencies (MDAs); lawmakers; NNPC; NIETI; Professional bodies; Oil companies, the Media and other stakeholders to discuss issues on how Federal government can increase its capacity to effectively collect and transparently and accountably manage its share of Capital Gains Tax (CGT) that is arising from divestment of its oil and gas resources.

The discussions would also include issues on Oil and gas sector divestments from 2006 to 2016, the CGT and other taxes payable over the period; the payment and non-payment of CGT together with the process, review of legal tax and policy structures.

The recommendations from the roundtable will be shared with appropriate authorities and agencies and widely published.
